Daniel W. Bearden, NMR ScientistEducation: Ph.D., 1987, Rice University Research Expertise and Interests: Dr. Dan Bearden is the NIST Senior Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Scientist at the Hollings Marine Laboratory, responsible for South Carolina’s two strongest high-resolution NMR magnets. He is leading a multi-institutional effort to apply the emerging science of Metabolomics to marine ecosystems to better understand the complex effects of environmental stressors on individual organisms, populations and ecosystems. Prior to joining NIST in 2007, Dr. Bearden was the Senior NMR scientist for NOAA and had also led the Chemical Contaminants Research Group in the Marine Ecotoxicology Branch of the Center for Coastal Environmental Health and Biomolecular Research (CCHEBR). Prior to joining NOAA in 1993, Dr. Bearden was on the faculty of the Clemson University Chemistry Department (Lecturer) with responsibilities in NMR and teaching. Dr. Bearden completed a two-year International Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Australian National University in Canberra, ACT, Australia in 1989. Contact Information: Phone: (843) 762-8865
