Tracey Schock, Research Chemist Education: Ph.D., 2007,
Medical University of South Carolina Research Expertise and Interests: Dr. Tracey Schock is a NIST Post-doctoral fellow with Dr. Dan Bearden, the senior scientist of the Hollings Marine Laboratory’s NMR facility. Her research focuses on NMR-based environmental metabolomics. Metabolomics analysis creates complete biological profiles of an organism. Dr. Schock’s goal is to detect perturbations caused by stressors, such as a disease or chemical exposure, within the metabolic profiles of marine organisms and assess potential biomarkers and biochemical modes of action. Prior to beginning her post-doc with NIST, Dr. Schock performed her dissertation research in marine natural products with the goal of isolating, purifying and structurally elucidating unknown toxins from the blue-green algae Trichodesmium thiebauttii.
