Rebecca S. Pugh, Research Biologist

Research Expertise and Interests:
Rebecca’s research goals are to implement
cryogenic environmental specimen banking activities through the collection of marine animal tissues,
including marine mammals and Alaskan colonial seabirds. She is also interested in the development of
protocols for specimen banking under cleanroom conditions and contaminant sampling. Prior to her employment
at NIST in 1998, she was a research biologist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration,
National Ocean Service at the Center for Coastal Environmental Health and Biomolecular Research in Charleston,
SC. She has authored several annotated bibliographies in relation to marine animals and contaminants
under the NIST Internal Report Series and co-authored a number of peer-reviewed publications.
Currently serving on the Editorial Board of Cell Preservation Technology Journal of the
International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories.
