Lisa Ervin Kilpatrick , Research Chemist
Education:
Ph.D., 2002, Northern Illinois University
B.S., 1996, Carthage College, Kenosha Wisconsin
Research Expertise and Interests:
Dr. Lisa Ervin Kilpatrick began working in the Division of Physical and Chemical Properties
of NIST in 2004. Her work involves collecting high quality tandem mass spectra of peptides using a linear
ion trap mass spectrometer. The peptide spectra, also being collected by NIST in Gaithersburg, MD, are being
used to build a reference library for the reliable identification of peptides from complex mixtures.
Dr. Kilpatrick received a Ph. D. in biochemistry from Northern Illinois University and worked as a post-doctoral
fellow at the Medical University of South Carolina for two years. During her post-doctoral fellowship, Dr.
Kilpatrick identified post-translational modifications of lens membrane protein modifications related to
aging and cataract formation using techniques including LC-MS/MS, MALDI-TOF and MALDI-TOF/TOF. Prior work
experience at Abbott Laboratories involved analysis of drug candidates with FAB mass spectrometry.
