Arezue Boroujerdi, Research Chemist Education: Research Expertise and Interests:
Dr. Arezue Boroujerdi is a NIST Post-doctoral fellow working with Dr. Dan Bearden in the NMR facility. Her NMR work is geared toward the rapidly growing field of metabolomics. In conjunction with the interests of the scientists at the Hollings Marine Laboratory, she is pursuing environmental metabolomics in order to investigate the effects of environmental stressors on marine organisms. Prior to joining NIST in March 2008, Arezue completed her Ph.D. work which involved protein structure calculations. Starting from the DNA of a halophilic protein (hvDHFR1), she produced (via molecular biology techniques) and purified (via column chromatography) the protein. Using three-dimensional NMR spectroscopy, she was able to achieve complete chemical shift assignments for the protein. Finally, through the use of various NMR softwares, she was able to calculate the structure of the protein. Arezue’s graduate work resulted in several publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and regional conferences. Contact Information:
